LOTTLE: IT IS LIKE A LITTLE, BUT A LOT

 

Real romance, truly, is a collection of a thousand little things- ordinary things, if you’d rather call them.

They are subtle, almost overlooked. Giving meaning to love, is the raison d’être.

They are those things that turn our sighs into smiles, clutch at our hearts so that our eyes water (in a good way). The thoughts of which have us smiling non-stop under the covers at night.

These things- the worthwhile things.

Maybe for you, it is how they say your name, or it is that pet name they call you by.

Maybe, it is how they’ve saved your name in their phone.

It could just be remembering that you’re allergic to nuts and so they cut it off their diets, or how they repeatedly tell the waiter not to include nuts in your food.

Possibly, it is the way they lean in to kiss: brushing their lips against yours.

You may see it in the way their face brightens up when you come walking by, or how their face lits up when you send them a text from across the room.

Maybe, it’s the glances you catch them stealing, and the many photos of you on their phone.

Sometimes, it is the way they move heaven and earth to fix things when you fight: the way they apologise, the way they shudder at the thought of losing you.

It could be the 3 a.m. conversations, you know. The ones when you can literally hear the sleep taking over their voice, but they refuse to go to bed until you feel okay.

Maybe for you, it is their honesty: how they’d never lie to you and leave you feeling stupid.

Perhaps, it is their tight hugs after a long day, or how they listen to you nag about that colleague who always gets on your nerves.

For all one knows, it is because they let you share their popcorn. (Everyone loves their popcorn)

For some of us, it is the way they replace their “my” with “our” : talk about, “our house”, “our business”.

Ouuuu......*whispers* Maybe, you feel it when they talk about their future with you. Oh the cute names they have for your babies together! And wow, Violet and Tangerine Yellow for your wedding colours?! Perfect!

Their “I love you” even after a fight? Could be.

Their “I know you love chocolates. Have this”. Or, “I know you’re terrified of dogs, but I got you one anyway.” You are annoyed, but you can’t stop laughing.

Is it their hearty laughter when you act all clumsy? I bet!

Perchance, it is how they gas you up when you are low. How quickly they rise to your defence.

Maybe, it is how they show you off as theirs, or how they grab your hand in public.

(Now this one is funny). Maybe it’s their jealousy, yes. How green their face turns when someone else has your attention.

Perhaps, it is the lengthy messages they leave you long after you’ve gone to bed.

Perhaps, it is the long sigh at the end of the line when you have to say goodbye.

Maybe, it is the random reassurance and compliments.

 

These things.

They tell the tone of love.

They define everything love is.

They are ordinary, yet they add the extra.

They are lottle: it is like a little, but a lot.
